FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Big Red Liquors Voluntarily Limits Hours to Ensure the Safety of Employees, Customers

In an effort to ensure the safety of its employees and customers during this unprecedented health crisis, Big Red Liquors, Indiana’s largest package liquor retailer with 58 stores in communities across southern and central Indiana, is voluntarily limiting its hours.

Beginning Monday, March 23rd, Big Red Liquors will open exclusively to customers age 60 and over between the hours of 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm. Big Red Liquors will be open to the general public between the hours of 1:00 pm and 8:00 pm. Big Red Liquors will enforce a limit of no more than ten customers in the store at any given time.

“We are taking these steps voluntarily because of our concern for the health of our employees and our customers,” Don Rix, President of Big Red Liquors said. “Our stores provide a unique function in the communities that we serve. We are not a gathering place for the general public, and our customers spend far less time in our stores when they are shopping than they would in other retail outlets. But we are a proud Hoosier-owned business and the health and welfare of our customers and employees is our top priority.”

In addition to limiting its hours of operation, Big Red Liquors announced that it will spend an hour before opening and after closing meticulously cleaning all surfaces in its stores. That effort will be in addition to following the guidelines set forth by President Trump to Slow the Spread of the Coronavirus during its hours of operation including requiring employees to wash and sanitize their hands after touching any frequently used item or surface, maintaining a distance of six feet between customers and employees, and disinfecting frequently used items and surfaces regularly during the course of business.

Big Red Liquors will maintain these modified hours of operations until at least Thursday, April 23, 2020.

“As one of the most highly regulated retailers in the state, we are blessed with great privileges and great responsibilities. We have always been committed to being a responsible retailer of alcohol in the State of Indiana. The decisions we have made today underscore our commitment to responsibility to our employees and customers. We have every intention of continuing to serve our communities with the best selection and service in the industry during these unprecedented times, but we will do so in the most responsible way possible.”

Big Red Liquors was founded in 1972 in Bloomington, Indiana. Big Red Liquors owns and operates retail locations in Bloomington, Indianapolis, Speedway, Fishers, Greenwood, Westfield, Terre Haute, Martinsville, Camby, McCordsville, Carmel, French Lick, Brownsburg, and Bedford. Big Red Liquors employs more than 500 Hoosiers in its 58 retail locations.
