Did you know that blended Scotch can be bottled anywhere? Of course it still has to be aged for a minimum of three years in Scotland, but unlike Single Malt Scotch, which must by law be bottled in Scotland, blended scotch can be bottled locally, which is exactly what we found in Krogman’s Mellow Piper, a series of single barrel scotches bottled at cask strength (110 proof) and finished in Taxman Old Ale seasoned casks, Madeira casks, Cream Sherry casks, and Marsala wine casks respectively. The original liquid hails from the western Highlands, directly north of Glasgow. The pairing of local ex-beer casks with fresh off the boat premium aged scotch (with a 40% malt content) was too good to pass up. The fact that it’s also 110 proof, and ONLY $19.99, even better! If you’re looking for a biscuit sweet, honeycomb infused, nutty, fruity, maple syrup bomb with some real power from the proof, any four of the variants work perfectly, some with more fruit influence than others, but all equally delicious and a SHOCKINGLY good value.
