Sylvain Pataille certainly doesn’t need any introduction from Burgundy fans. From just a mere 15 hectares, mostly situated in Marsannay, he produces nearly twenty different cuvees while also acting as consulting enologist to some fifteen other wineries around the Côte de Nuits. And while his Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays are always highly sought after, his expressions of the Aligote grape have developed a cult-like following of their very own. With an intriguing mix of orchard fruits like pear and quince mingling nicely with more citrusy notes of grapefruit and lemon pith, this is startlingly delicious. Subtle suggestions of ginger and mint on the finish give this wine a level of complexity usually reserved for more “serious” Burgundies.
