The Alexander Valley Silver Oak Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the most consistent super premium Cabernet Sauvignons that hails from the revered appellations of California. Every year of this wine tells its own story, a bottle of Silver Oak is like a reliable friend. You can always be confident of enjoyment when popping the cork on one of these iconic bottles.
The 2016 vintage was a winemaker’s delight. It marked the end of an enduring drought, warm weather in late winter led to an early bud break. Thankfully the early budding was not met with any spring frost and the growing season was consistent with warmth. Steady ripening and phenolic development were aided in August with some cooler weather and protective fog which glided the perfectly concentrated fruit into the harvest.
This vintage of Alexander Valley Silver Oak is composed of 94.6% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4 % Merlot, 0.5% Petit Verdot, 0.5% Cabernet Franc and 0.4% Malbec. Half of the blend was aged for 24 months in new American oak barrels, and the remaining in used American oak. The combination of oak influence provides a subtle layers expression of vanilla, coconut and bay leaf that is a signature of the Silver Oak style.
Ruby in color with a magenta rim. The enticing nose of cassis, blackberry, vanilla, sage and spearmint leads into a bramble entry with a bright pop of raspberry on the mid-palate. A juicy finish with chewy tannins and a medium length. This wine is ready to be enjoyed upon release but will cellar elegantly through 2042.
To continue with 2020 being completely unpredictable, the price of this standard bearer has actually decreased from the previous vintage. To celebrate, I’ve lowered the price on any remaining 2015 Silver Oak Alexander Valley AND the newly released 2016 vintage to $79.99! A great chance to start a vertical collection in your cellar!
Sip in style!
