Field Recordings Wonderwall Edna Valley Pinot Noir

The Field Recordings project is a passion project of Andrew Jones, a winemaker whose 'day job' is planning and planting vineyards all over California as a Vine Nursery Fieldman. Jones started this label to capture the spirit of the people and places that combine to create amazing wines from unexpected places. The relationships forged through partnering with people and the land have afforded him small-lot offerings from underrated or undiscovered vineyards that have produced high quality fruit.

In the Wonderwall project, Jones focuses his talents on expressing Pinot Noir from extreme, coastal locations. This version of Wonderwall Pinot Noir hails from the Edna Valley AVA, located in the southwestern corner of San Luis Obispo County, California and a sub- AVA of the Central Coast AVA. The Edna Valley is situated as a transverse valley; instead of running parallel to the Pacific coast, the valley runs northwest to southeast. This geography allows for moderate sunshine and cool maritime fogs to be ushered into the valley by cooling Pacific breezes from the Morro Bay. Because of these tempering climatic forces, Edna Valley has the longest growing season of any wine region in California. This makes this region ideal for cool-climate varietals like Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

Edna Valley's distinct microclimate is even more fascinating as a growing region when you consider it is shadowed by volcanic mountains, known as the Nine Sisters, which help compose the soils in which the grapevines grow. Volcanic soil is high in mineral content and isn't very fertile. Vines grown in these soils tend to produce smaller fruit with higher acidity and less ripeness. This translates to savory, buttoned-up wines that are concentrated in flavor but without being dense...perfect conditions for Pinot Noir.

The Field Recordings winery is a Tilth Oregon Certified winery. Using only native yeasts, minimal sulfites and vegan- friendly fining practices, only the most natural, minimal interventionalist practices are used to make these wines. In addition to sourcing fruit from sustainable vineyards, Field Recordings is committed to allowing the natural beauty of the fruit shine through with each bottling.
The Wonderwall Pinot Noir is 100% Pinot Noir that exudes energizing notes of black cherries, figs and cola with a touch of almond bark, smoke and black tea. Invigorating hints of white pepper, clove and cinnamon add a memorable note to the lengthy finish. This wine is delightful, and not stuffy in any way. Enjoy it with a special someone, a well-cooked meal or just sip it along side a furry four-legged friend on a Tuesday...it plays well in any situation.
