Red Wine & Health

Sun, Sep 18, 22

Many adults know (or, at least have a suspicion) that red wine provides some nice health benefits when taken in moderation. Moderation means one drink per day for women and two for men (one drink = about 10 ml of pure alcohol which equates to a glass of wine, a pint of beer or a shot of hard liquor). So pour a glass of your favorite red (check out our featured wines here) and sip on some knowledge.

What magic makes drinking a little bit of red wine every day a healthy habit? The answer is the red grapes is what makes it so. Why? Get ready, because it’s about to get all sciencey in here!  Red grapes contain resveratrol which is believed by some to help prevent damage to blood vessels, reduce the so-called “bad cholesterol” and combat blood clots. Those benefits have a wide-ranging impact on the health of your body since, you know, everything relies on blood.

What Wines Contain the Most Resveratrol

A study done by the boring sounding American Journal of Enology and Viticulture compared wines from all over the world in search of resveratrol concentration. Their findings point that pinot noirs tend to have the most resveratrol regardless of the country where the grapes were grown. Resveratrol can also be found in red and purple grapes, blueberries, cranberries, mulberries, peanuts and pistachios.
So raise a glass of red wine today, tomorrow and every day in celebration of good things that can be good for you too!
